While we officially began operating as Rangeland Meats in 2018, our roots go much deeper. Our family has proudly run Devick’s Ranch since 1906, making us a part of British Columbia’s agricultural history for more than 100 years and six generations. What started as a family effort to raise quality cattle has grown into a thriving local business, focused on delivering exceptional beef from our ranch “from gate to plate.”
What’s Happening on the Ranch Right Now 🌾🐂
Summer is one of the busiest—and most important—times of the year at the ranch.
In the fields, this is when we begin putting up feed that will sustain our herd through the winter and into next spring. That means cutting, baling, and storing hay and silage, with a mix of alfalfa, clover, barley, and corn. We do both round bales and sileage, carefully managing what we grow to ensure our cattle stay healthy all year long.
Before and after harvest, there’s always a long list of behind-the-scenes work: machine maintenance, irrigation, and planning ahead for the next rotation. It’s a rhythm of hard work and careful stewardship that’s shaped by generations of experience.
On the cattle side, the bulls are out and the cows are now on range. This part of the year is all about monitoring our grazing lands, checking fences, water sources, and grass levels, and moving herds between pastures once they’ve completed their allotted time on each range. It’s hands-on, day-in-day-out work that ensures both our animals and our land stay healthy and sustainable.
