Game Processing Services at Rangeland Meats
For many people across the BC Interior, hunting is more than just a pastime—it’s a tradition that connects families, friends, and communities to the land. From early morning hunts in the mountains to evenings spent around campfires sharing stories, hunting remains an important part of life for many British Columbians.
The Thompson-Nicola region and surrounding areas are home to an abundance of wildlife, including mule deer, white-tailed deer, moose, black bear, elk, and more. Every year, hunters from across the province—and beyond—travel to the BC Interior to experience some of the best hunting opportunities British Columbia has to offer.
At Rangeland Meats, we’re excited to announce a new service for 2026 designed to help local hunters and visiting sportsmen make the most of their harvest.
Introducing Game Processing at Rangeland Meats
Beginning this fall, Rangeland Meats will be accepting game animals for professional processing.
Whether you’re looking for a simple hanging service before cutting your own meat or want your entire animal professionally cut, wrapped, frozen, and turned into value-added products, our team is here to help.
Our goal is simple: provide hunters with a reliable local option that delivers quality workmanship, food safety, and convenience.
Whether you’re harvesting a mule deer near Barriere, a white-tail in the North Thompson, a moose near Clearwater, or travelling from elsewhere in British Columbia to hunt the Interior, proper processing is key to making the most of your harvest.
Why Proper Processing Matters
A successful hunt represents a significant investment of time, effort, and respect for the animal. Proper processing helps ensure that none of that effort goes to waste.
From steaks and roasts to sausage and jerky, professional processing allows hunters to maximize both the quality and yield of their harvest while ensuring meat is handled safely and efficiently.
At Rangeland Meats, our experienced team understands the importance of preserving the quality of your game from field to freezer.
Flexible Processing Options
Every hunter has different preferences, which is why we’re offering multiple options to suit your needs.
Hang Only Service
For hunters who enjoy cutting and wrapping their own meat, we offer:

Field-to-Freezer Tips for Better-Tasting Game
A successful hunt doesn’t end with the harvest. Proper handling in the field can make a significant difference in the quality of the meat that reaches your freezer.
Cool Your Animal Quickly
Heat is one of the biggest enemies of meat quality.
- Field dress the animal as soon as practical.
- Prop open the body cavity to release heat.
- Keep the carcass shaded whenever possible.
- In warmer weather, get the animal cooled and transported promptly.
Keep It Clean
A clean animal produces a better final product.
- Avoid dragging game through mud, dirt, or standing water.
- Use clean knives and equipment.
- Use game bags to protect exposed meat from dirt, insects, and debris.
- Keep hair contamination to a minimum during skinning.
Allow Airflow During Transport
If you’re travelling from hunting areas around Clearwater, Barriere, Kamloops, the Cariboo, or elsewhere in the BC Interior:
- Avoid sealing warm meat in plastic.
- Allow adequate airflow around the carcass.
- Use coolers only when appropriate and avoid trapping heat.
Bring It In Ready for Processing
To help ensure food safety and quality:
Animals must be adequately skinned and cleaned before drop-off.
Remove dirt, leaves, and excess contamination.
Contact us if you’re unsure whether your animal is ready for processing.
Proper preparation helps us process your animal more efficiently and helps ensure the highest quality finished product.
Important Information for Hunters
To maintain the highest standards of food safety and quality within our facility:
Please ensure all game animals are adequately skinned and cleaned before drop-off.
Rangeland Meats reserves the right to refuse any game animal that could pose a contamination risk to other products in the facility.
